Joey Perrone is thrown overboard of a cruise ship, by her husband, Chaz Perrone, a murder attempt that fails.
Ex police investigator Mick Stranahan pulls her out of the water and instead of going to the police, they plan revenge on Joey's husband, not only to screw with his life, but to find out his motive.
In the mean time, more than one heavy rain cloud is building up above Chaz Perrones head and soon he finds himself in a mess, far bigger than he could ever have imagined.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The countless plot twists and unlikely coincidences are entertaining to read and I often laughed out loud. In this book, Carl Hiaasen outdid himself, creating interesting characters that are simply unusual. Next to the main characters, the book features a snake-loving police officer who's in war against his snake-hating neighbors, a brute with a bullet up his you-know-what with an affection towards roadside crosses and a millionaire shepherd from New Zealand.
It was fun, seeing Chaz Perrone's life crumble before his eyes and this book demonstrated that sometimes glee is the best of feelings.
I won't explain the picture, which shows the everglades (and an alligator ;) ), but reading this book will make you understand. The everglades play a big role in the book and I learned a lot about them, reading it. It was like a little cookie on the side, a few facts that I didn't know.
Obvious after the last comment: The story takes place in Florida, not only in the everglades although a big part of the story evolves around this national park. Also the story is well researched, something I like in stories, too.
I really don't have anything bad to say about this book. If you're looking for entertainment, read it, it's worth it.
Enjoy ;)
